Tapiwa John Chivanga
Tapiwa John is a Partner with the firm. In addition to being a registered legal practitioner of the High Court of Zimbabwe, he is also duly registered as a Conveyancer and Notary Public.
Tapiwa specializes in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), as well as, most aspects involving Commercial and Corporate Law. In recent years he has advised on transactions with a combined value of approximately USD 620 million dollars, particularly in the lithium mining space in Zimbabwe. Amongst his clientele, is one of the largest privately owned ready-mix concrete supplier in the Southern African region; and one of the world’s largest industrial processing, distribution and services company.
He occasionally handles Constitutional and Administrative Law cases. Currently, he is the point lawyer challenging the laws criminalizing recreational cannabis in Zimbabwe, a subject which he initially wrote an article on. Furthermore, he has over the years consistently litigated in several matters concerning environmental rights, especially wetlands and other environmentally sensitive areas.
As alluded to above, Tapiwa is also an avid writer and has over the years published several articles on different aspects of the law including an in-depth commentary on Zimbabwe’s Foreign Investment Laws, and has subsequently assisted the Government of Zimbabwe (together with a preeminent international law firm) on the local and foreign investment laws applicable to the country. He has also contributed to the Chambers Global Practice Guides to Doing Business in Zimbabwe.
