Our firm has traditionally fearlessly fought many human rights legal battles prior to the crystalisation of constitutional law in Zimbabwe in its current form. During the liberation struggle we acted on behalf of African Nationalists and represented most of its hierarchy.

Included amongst its legal challenges were those in which the firm represented Madzimbamuto and Baron in seeking to have UDI declared illegal and Chief Rekayi Tangwena in seeking to retain his land in the Eastern Districts of the country. This tradition continues today as Scanlen & Holderness represents many of those affected by the abrogation of the rule of law in Zimbabwe. In addition Scanlen solicited for the unconstitutional declaration of the effecting of the death penalty. Our areas of expertise include:

  • Bill of Rights litigation
  • Instituting and challenging administrative actions (appeals and reviews) in all forums
  • Constitutional law
  • litigation
  • Land claim cases
